Bad Effects of Watching TV

Watching TV can have several effects on my life. For one thing, watching TV kills my memory. When I watch TV for long time I cannot remember my studies because I always imagine the pictures or movies on TV in my head, and even worse I often forget what people just talked to me. Second effect, TV can make my study failed because it gets me away from my homework and assignments. I always think to do all those tasks after watching TV, but I’ve never made it because I always watch TV until too late everyday. Consequently, now I’ve got very low score in the class. Worst of all, TV makes me perform job poorer and poorer. Because I watch TV too long, I feel sleepy at work, so I cannot do my work well. In addition, I’m often blamed by my boss for coming late. As a result, I haven’t been promoted for this year. Therefore, watching TV is not good for me.

Aggressive Definition

According to Cambridge Dictionary, the word “aggressive” means behaving in an angry way and violent way towards another person. We suppose there is traffic accidence between a car and a motorbike, we don’t know yet whether the car or motorbike is right. However, the car’s owner shouts at motorbike rider, then hit him and insult him. The actions of shouting, hitting and insulting are called aggressive. In a house there are brothers and sisters. The oldest brother always kicks or hit his younger brothers and sisters as they are weaker than him. So, the oldest brother tends to be more aggressive than his brothers and sisters. At work, the boss is always bad tempered; he always shouts at his employees and never listens to any of his subordinates’ ideas. This boss is aggressive. So, this is the meaning of aggressive.

Education System in Cambodia

The education system in Cambodia is divided into three sections. First section is classified as Primary Education which starts from grade one to nine. Its purpose is to build the children with strong foundation, physical health, moral understanding, and basic understanding in science and social studies. Second section is called Secondary Education which contains from grade ten to twelve. Its purpose is to expand and consolidate student’s knowledge obtained from lower grades and to provide a strong capability in order to continue their study in higher education. Last is classified as High Education which contains many universities and faculties such as English, French, medicines, management, marketing, accounting, banking, information technology, international relation, psychology, construction, etc. The purpose is to enable student to choose any skill or profession they like for their life, but they have to study at least 4 years for graduation. In conclusion, with these three sections student would gain real ability for their professions in the future.

How to Live on a Limited Budget

In order to live on a limited budget, we have to follow these steps. First, we should think about everyday needs which are required spending every month such as food, utilities, household products and transportation. Because those items are needed regularly and we can easily estimate the amount we need every month. Second, we should make the budget plan for clothes because everyone needs clothes eventhough we don’t have to buy it every month, we should at least know how many clothes we need a year. Third, we should consider what kind of equipments such as refrigerator, washing machines, kitchen materials etc. to be put in the house, because all of those things consumed a lot of electricity. So, we have to think carefully whether we have enough money to pay electric bill or not. Following all the steps, we will be able to live on a limited budget easily.

Phnom Penh and Siem Reap

Both Phnom Penh and Siem Reap are such beautiful cities of Cambodia. However, they have several different things. One of differences is the night life styles. In Phnom Penh, there are many kinds of business are opened 24 hours a day and the city is full of light, but most type of business in Siem Reap such as restaurants, supermarkets, clothes shops, clubs are closed around mid-night and most part of the town is dark. Besides, Phnom Penh’s population density is 3448 people per kilometer square while in Siem Reap’s is 68 people per kilometer square, so in Phnom Penh is more crowded. Another different thing, Phnom Penh is a modern city where there are many roads, tall and big buildings, yet Siem Reap is an archaeological area where there are many ancient temples like Angkor Wat for instance. In short, Phnom Penh and Siem Reap attract people in different ways.

Important Qualities of a Good Supervisor

If we talk about a Pyramid of management levels in management theory, supervisor refers to a person who is in charge in a middle-management position, that is, he takes orders from upper management and gives direct orders to subordinates. Therefore, a supervisor is an important person whose responsibility is to work with many people in the field in order to achieve the goal of upper management. With such responsibility, a supervisor is required to be a qualified person. Through my work experiences for eight years within various positions with different supervisors, I have found that a good supervisor should have three important qualities including initiative, people skills, and self-confidence.

The most important quality is initiative. Because a supervisor is a model for his subordinates, his actions would influence them. Thus, a supervisor with initiative always looks for better ways to do things, he does not wait for someone else to take action. The following example will explain what initiative means. In a production department, a supervisor finds that the working process is very slow because his people are working slowly and lazily as they carry only a few clothes from place to place. In fact, they can carry more clothes at a time. As a supervisor is supposed to be a role model, he starts carrying as many clothes as he can so that his subordinates will follow his example. Otherwise, he would find a better way to move the clothes from place to place (by cart, carriage, etc) which his crews have never thought about. As explained in the example, a supervisor with initiative is necessary as he helps the firms to achieve their goals, to be more productive and to guide people to work more effectively.

The second quality that a supervisor should acquire is people skills. A supervisor is the person who achieves the goal through other people or his subordinates, so it is important for him to have competence in people skills in order to inspire people to work with him. People skills involve communicating, influencing people, knowing yourself and others, etc. Supervisor should be able to answer these questions: what if the people working with you do not understand what you are talking about? What if your crews are not willing to work with you? What if you and others are not clear about everyone’s positions? The questions above clearly express how people skills are important for supervisor, because communication skills help a supervisor to be effective in talking, listening, writing, and presentation. In addition, influencing people skills enable a supervisor to build a good relationship with others. Also, knowing yourself and others makes supervisor and his people understand each other, their positions, and responsibilities clearly. Therefore, people skills cannot be left out for a supervisor.

The last one is self-confidence. A good supervisor should be confident in their own judgment and abilities. For example, a supervisor must speak up during group discussions while other people are afraid to speak up. So, a supervisor must be self-confident and be able to speak up about his ideas. With self-confidence, a supervisor will have a strong commitment to the firm’s vision and be prepared to take high risks and make sacrifices to realize this.

In conclusion, to be a good supervisor it is necessary to acquire the three important qualities above, because it is not only the work that is important, but a supervisor must also be concerned with the people in order to achieve the goal of organization. A supervisor can achieve goals easily if he is competent and the people he is working with are willing to work with him.

The Importance of a High School in a Poor Community

In a world which is full of competition, education is very important. Higher education helps people to get more opportunities to gain employment. Due to the lack of high schools in my community, most students cannot get further education. In fact, most of them finish their educational life in primary or secondary schools, which is considered as a very low level, and unacceptable for most of the firms or organizations. Consequently, they are never able to compete with students in the city, whose education is at a much higher level, where there are many schools, businesses, and jobs. With their educational level, most of them can only get jobs that require manual labor such as being a construction worker, garment factory worker, goods carrier, land digger, stone breaker, etc. Therefore, in my opinion, if a new high school was to be built in my community, it would provide several advantages for all its students.

Firstly, the new high school will give a chance to students in my community to access higher education and to get further education at university if that is what they desire. According to the general education system in Cambodia, students are supposed to finish high school before entering any faculty or university. High school is like a bridge that leads students to a world of universities. Therefore, the students have a chance to study in a faculty if they complete high school. However, if they are unable to continue their studies after high school, they can still find many kinds of jobs which require high school completion. Therefore, the new high school would be a great addition for the people in my community.

Secondly, the school will discourage students to quit their educational life so early. If there is a high school available in their village, it would be less difficult for them to go to school. Generally, in rural Cambodia, if students want to continue their studies in high school, they must travel a long way, sometimes around ten kilometers from their villages to schools. For those who have bicycles, this would not a problem. However, most of the students in my community walk to school because of their poor living standard, thus it must be very difficult for them. Also, if a high school existed in our community, the students would look at their educational life in a broader way as they would find less barriers to prevent them from extending their education. As a result, the presence of a new high school within our community would be a factor to encourage students to strive for higher education.

Finally, building a new high school in a place where standards of education are still very low, would help develop the community since it will improve the quality of education and create better human resources for the future. Best of all, it helps to reduce poverty and improve the living conditions of the people in that community.

In short, building a high school is very important because it will make positive changes to my community, particularly extending educational life of people, their job competitiveness, improving their living standards and reducing their poverty. Therefore, I fully support this plan as the first priority for development in my community.
